Wind Boat, 1992

Galvanized steel, aluminum, stainless steel, 22 x 8 x 6 ft.; 6.5 x 2.5 x 2 m.

This work was designed as a “signal” sculpture installed along the road at the entrance of Ville Lasalle near Montreal recalling the windmill that once stood on the site. It turns in the wind and refers to the wind-powered industry that was part of Lasalle’s earliest history as well as the boat traffic on the St. Lawrence River. Now the Mercier bridge structure dominates the shoreline and the commerce of the area and the structure that holds the boat form recalls this bridge.
